First place in the contest wins $100; while second places receives $50 and third place wins $25. Pies will be judged on both presentation and taste.

Baked pies should be dropped off at the Switzerland County Visitors Center located at 128 West Main Street between 10-11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The public is invited to enter and there is no entry fee.

Judging will begin at noon and will feature media celebrity judge Tony Mirones of WCPO-Channel 9 in Cincinnati.

Those interested in participating should bring their pet to the courthouse lawn for the costume judging.

Registration will start at 12:30 p.m.; and the judging will begin at 1 p.m. The entry fee for each pet is $5.

All proceeds will go towards the Switzerland County Animal Shelter.

Prizes will be given for first, second, and third place and will be judged based upon originality.

– Switzerland County Tourism invites any business, club or organization to submit an entry into its “Decorate a Scarecrow” contest. The contest is open to any business, club or organization from any area and of any age group.

All businesses, clubs or organizations are responsible for all their supplies; and must keep within the size limits of 4 feet wide by 8 feet high. Entries must be freestanding or mounted on a stable moveable surface. No electricity will be available.

Participants are urged to be creative, choosing a theme that represents their business, club or organization. Although not required, decorations surrounding the scarecrow such as mums, hay, etc. to enhance its presentation are permitted but must be kept within the size limits.

Prize money of $300 for first place; $200 for second place; and $100 for third place will be awarded.

All scarecrows will be displayed at the Grisard Building located at the corner of Ferry and Main Streets in downtown Vevay beginning October 2nd; and will remain throughout the month of October. Downtown businesses may display their scarecrows on site. No entries can be removed before that time.

– Along with arts and crafts, the event features a tractor show, apple pie baking contest, pumpkin decorating contest, artist demonstrations, antique cars, live entertainment, delicious food, and more.

There will also be live entertainment during Sleepy Hollow, with the “Pure Country” band performing from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and the “Dry Fork” Band performing from 1:30-4 p.m.
