The annual “Sleepy Hollow Fall Celebration” in Vevay has been set for Saturday, September 30th, and Sunday, October 1st; and the Switzerland County Visitors Center has announced all sorts of programs and events designed to entertain both young and old.
– A new event this year will be sightseeing cruises on the “Magnolia Belle” or the “Spirit of Peoria” riverboats.
Cruises will be at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Adult tickets are $10; and children 12 and under are $5. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Switzerland County Visitors Center, or by calling 427-3237.
– Everyone is invited to bring their best pie and enter the “Apple Pie Contest” during the festival.
Pies will be judged on: appearance, taste, filing and crust. Pies can be dropped off at the Switzerland County Visitors Center at 128 West Main Street, Vevay, from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday; and judging will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded for the first and second place pies. So call Mom, Grandma or Auntie for that famous recipe and get baking! For more information call the Switzerland County Visitors Center at 427-3237.
– Switzerland County Tourism presents its first annual Car, Truck and Bike Show during the ‘Sleepy Hollow’ festival.
Registration is from 10 a.m. until noon, with judging beginning at noon. There will be tee-shirts, and dash plaques for the first 50 entries, along with door prizes, a 50/50 drawing and trophies.
A rain date is set for October 1st with the same registration and judging times. So if you have a prized vehicle, polish it up and show it off! Or just come out and enjoy the show.

– This year the “Sleepy Hollow Fall Celebration” will hold a pumpkin decorating contest.
Bring your already decorated pumpkin to the courthouse between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on September 30th. Judging will be at noon in front of the courthouse steps.
First and second place prizes will be awarded for each adult and child categories. All pumpkins need to remain on display until 2 p.m. Pumpkins will need to be picked up by 4 p.m., or will be placed on display at the Switzerland County Visitors Center.

– The Switzerland County FFA will be hosting a Corn Maze beside the High School during the Sleepy Hollow event. The cost of the maze is $3 per person from noon to 4 p.m.
– The Historic Hoosier Theater will be performing “The Smell of the Kill”, a mysterious comedy, on Friday, September 29th and Saturday, September 30th at 7 p.m.; and on Sunday, October 1st at 2 p.m. Advance tickets are available at the Visitors Center.
– Visit the Switzerland County Historical Museum and see the signature needlework and quilt display open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
– Other events during the weekend include: arts and crafts; antiques; live music; farmer’s market fresh produce; pumpkins, mums and Indian corn.
