Shiners win two by 10-run rule

     Rising Sun evened its record at 2-2 on the season with a pair of 10-run rule wins this past week.

    The first win came as Rising Sun downed Trinity Lutheran 12-1 in five innings on Wednesday, April 4 at Rising Sun.

    Senior Brent Turner pitched a one hitter while striking out eight.

    The Shiners opened up a 4-0 lead after one inning. Kameron Montgomery singled and stole second to start the inning. Jacob Bovard singled him home. Turner reached on an error to score Bovard. Landon Cole reached on a two out error. Colby Ritter reached on the third error of the inning to score Cole.

Senior Brent Turner picked up a pair of wins this past week allowing just two hits in 10 innings of work.

    Peyton Bell reached on another Cougars error in the second. Montgomery singled for the second time and both scored on Bovard singled again.

   In the third inning, the Cougars got on the board on an RBI single by Jacob VonDielingen.

   The Shiners put the game on ice with six runs in the fourth.

   Back to back walks to Montgomery and Bovard set up Turner to deliver a two-run single. Steven Jimenez singled and Cole added a 2-run single. Ritter reached on an error. Caleb Valentine walked Bell’s RBI single followed by a Max Bowne free pass forced in courtesy runner Zander Gilb for the final run.

     The Shiners posted a 13-3 win over Oldenburg Academy in six innings on Friday at Liberty Park in Batesville.

    The sixth inning was the key for the Shiners as they posted six runs.

     Rising Sun had a solo run in the first as Bovard reached on an error and scored on an RBI double by Turner.

     Jimenez was on the mound for the Shiners and erased a potential tying run in the bottom of the inning after a walk and pick off.

    Montgomery got the big inning going for the Shiners as he reached on an error in the third. Bovard singled him home. Turner and Jimenez followed with RBI doubles. Brayden Bush walked and Cole added another RBI single. Ritter singled home two runs for a 7-0 advantage.

   The Shiners made it 9-0 in the fourth as Montgomery was hit by a pitch. Turner singled him home. After a walk to Jimenez, Turner scored on a passed ball.

    Jimenez exited the mound in the fourth after allowing just one hit, one walk and striking out four.

    Brayden Bush came in to strike out the side.

    Bell walked and scored on an RBI single by Bovard  in the fifth.

   The Shiners shutout ended in the bottom of the fifth as Oldenburg put up three runs A couple singles an error, hit batter and a pair of passed balls.

   Rising Sun got two of those runs back in the sixth. Bowne walked. Two more OA errors  were followed by an RBI single by Bell.

   Bush struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth to end the game by 10-run rule. He had two strikeouts then hit two batters before his third strikeout of the inning and eighth in three innings.

   Turner was 3-for-3 with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. He saw action behind the plate for the first time this season.

   Ritter went 1-for-3 with 3 RBI and a run scored. The starting catcher did not have a passed ball in the win. Bovard had two hits. The Shiners had 11 stolen bases.
