The battle for the Ohio River Valley Conference baseball title may come down to when the Rising Sun Shiners travel to South Ripley on Monday.
The Shiners improved to 7-1 in ORVC play with wins over Southwestern and Switzerland County. They close out the home season against Shawe on Friday before the trip to Versailles. The Shiners play Shawe again on Tuesday and close the regular season on Wednesday at Jac-Cen-Del.
Rising Sun had to come from behind to beat Switzerland County, 6-3, on Friday at home.
The Pacers put up three runs in the first and held a 3-1 lead into the fourth as Pacer Kyle Whitham and Shiner Brent Turner were locked up in a pitchers dual.
Rising Sun tied the score in the bottom of the fourth when Steven Jimenez reached on an error and Landon Cole singled. Brayden Bush singled home Jimenez then Cole scored the tying run when Colby Ritter reached on another of SC’s three errors.
The Shiners loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth as Peyton Bell singled followed by a walk to Kameron Montgomery and single by Jacob Bovard. Turner singled home the go ahead run. Montgomery scored on a wild pitch. A ground out by Steven Jimenez scored Bovard with the final run.
Jimenez had a triple and a pair of RBI. Bovard had a pair of hits as Rising Sun had seven hits to five for the Pacers.
Turner got the win while striking out eight and walking four. Whitham suffered the loss with three unearned runs.
Rising Sun posted a 12-0 win over Southwestern in five innings at Hanover on Wednesday.
Brayden Bush pitched a one-hitter after being named ORVC layer of the Week for back-to-back no-hitters in his previous two outings.
Rising Sun opened with three runs i the first but all but put the game away with five runs in the second.
Bovard got things started with a two-out single. Turner doubled him home then scored on a single by Jimenez. Cole walked. Bush reached on an error and Colby Ritter singled in two for an 8-0 lead.
Montgomery singled and Bovard walked in the third. They scored on a double by Turner. Bush helped himself with a single in th fourth as he scored on a single by Max Bowne.
Ritter and Turner had two hits each along with three RBI.
Bush went three innings for the win, striking out seven and walking one. Bovard pitched a scoreless fourth inning allowing two walks and striking out two while Jimenez closed out the fifth by striking out all three batters he faced.
