Shiners place two in top10 at Rushville


The only time that cross country runners compete in class (schools their size) is the annual Rushville Invitational held on Saturday, Aug. 26th.

Rising Sun’s Trevor Levi completed the 3.1 mile course in 17:09.73 which placed him third behind Wapahani’s Nathan and Alex Herbst in 16:44.58 and 16:47.89 respectively.

Nick Koons was 39th in 19:07.85 followed by Noah Pflum at 61st (19:47.31) and freshman Dalton Vinup in 71st (20:10.51. Jake Powell was 83rd (20:34.4) followed by Peyton Bell 107th (21:41.94) and Brian Givan 121st (22:12.48).

Wapahani won the division with 63 points. Rising Sun was 10th with 245 followed by Ohio River Valley Conference foe Jac-Cen-Del with 286.

Kasey Baker (like Levi) put together a season best time of 21:34.36 to finish in eighth place. Seton Catholic’s Jenna Barker won the race in 18:39.63 with South Ripley’s Megan Cole placing sixth in 20:35.17.

Randolph Southern was the team champ with 99 followed by the Jac-Cen-Del girls with 106. South Ripley placed sixth with 136 followed by ORVC foe Milan in ninth (221) and Rising Sun 11th (240).

Senior Lucy Carrigan finished in 34th (23:46.55), Junior Keira Oser finished 92nd in 28:10.98. Kora Powell was 101st in 29:05.7 with McKenzie Ellegood 103rd in 29:39.03. Kiera Mann and Kaleigh Mann rounded out the Shiner team effort with times of 30:36.62 and 32:20.33 respectively.

In other meet results, Batesville boys and Greensburg girls won the division two titles. Indianapolis Cathedral swept the big school title with East Central second in the girls and fourth in the boys.

Earlier in the week, Rising Sun placed second among five teams at Switzerland County.

Southwestern won the boys meet with 25 followed by Rising Sun at 31.

SW’s Bradley Winston held off Rising Sun’s Trevor Levi to win the race in 17:39. Levi was clocked in 17:43.

Nick Koons placed sixth (18:59) followed by Noah Pflum seventh (20:30) and Dalton Vinup eighth (20:36).

Southwestern won the meet as they placed three runners ahead of Rising Sun’s fifth man. Daniel Daugherty was 13th (21:50). Peyton Bell was 15th (22:47) Brian Givan 17th (23:22). Also competing were AJ Boes (25:40), Marc McClellan (26:41) and Kaden Kittle (28:57).

Switzerland County’s Leah Anders won the girls race (21:42) to lead SC to a 23-37 win over Rising Sun.

Kasey Baker led RS with a second place time of 22:21. Lucy Carrigan was third at 4:42. Kiera Mann was third for the team and 11th overall in 28:48. Keira Oser was 14th (30:21)McKenzie Ellegood was 17th (30:56) followed by Kaleigh Mann (33:49), Brooke Taylor (33:51), Abby Wallace (34:33), Kiersten Pruiett (39:11) and Chloe Fletcher (39:40).

Rising Sun will compete in the pre-ORVC meet at Hanover College on Thursday, Sept. 7th.
