Shiners join in ORVC honors

     Rising Sun finished its 2018 season with a 12-11 record and a second place record in the Ohio River Valley Conference.

     Rising Sun finished its 2018 season with a 12-11 record and a second place record in the Ohio River Valley Conference.

    The Shiners success was rewarded with three players being named to the all-conference team.

     Senior Brent Turner led the ORVC in rebounding with 8.5 rebounds while averaging 13 points per game. He was 118-for-234 or 50 percent shooting from the field and 63 percent from the free throw line.

    Junior Nick Koons was the top free throw shooter in the conference at 89 percent while leading the team in scoring at 14.3 ppg. He added 4.4 rebounds and nearly two assists and steals per contest.

    Noah Pflum added 9.9 ppg, 2.5 rebounds one steal and a team best three steals per game.

   Along with classmate Jacob Bovard, Koons and Pflum combined for 81 of the team’s 90 3-pointers on the season. Bovard average 7.3 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 2.5 assists and one steal.

   Senior Jason McClellan closed his career with 7.4 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals. Classmate Trenton Gridley averaged 7.2 ppg and 3.7 rpg while having a team best 52 percent from the field.

   Wes Rider scored 3.6 ppg, grabbed 4.7 rpg with 1.3 assists and 1.5 steals.

    Rising Sun averaged 64.1 ppg, 30.4 rpg, 12.3 assists and 8.1 steals with 15.3 turnovers. The Shiners had 91 points in their final regular season game.
