The Rising Sun Shiners claimed a share of the Ohio River Valley Conference baseball title with an 11-0 win over Jac-Cen-Del on Wednesday, May 16th in Osgood.
After avenging its only ORVC loss of the season earlier in the week at South Ripley, Rising Sun finished tied with the Raiders at 11-1 behind a six inning win over JCD. Steven Jimenez stuck out 12 while allowing just two hits.
Meanwhile Rising Sun smacked 14 hits including a pair by Jimenez.
The Shiners scored a pair in the first as Jacob Bovard reached on a walk. Brent Turner, Landon Cole and Brayden Bush singled.
It was 5-0 after two innings as Caleb Valentine and Kameron Montgomery singled for RS. Bovard reached on an error and Jimenez singled in a run.
Peyton Bell doubled to open the fourth and scored on Bovard’s double. Jimenez made it 8-0 with his second RBI of the game.

Montgomery and Bovard singled to produce a 9-0 lead in the fifth. Cole was hit by a pitch in the sixth. Bush singled and Colby Ritter drove home the two runs that gave Rising Sun its 13th win by 10-run rule this season and second against Jac-Cen-Del.
Montgomery, Bovard, Jimenez, Bush and Bell had two hits each for the Shiners.
Rising Sun improved to 16-7 on the season headed into the Jac-Cen-Del Sectional against North Decatur (which was scheduled to start Wednesday, May 23rd.
The final regular season coaches poll had Rising Sun ranked fourth. A win in the sectional would most likely put them in the semi-finals at 11 a.m. Monday against second ranked Hauser (17-8). The two team had been ranked 1-2 earlier. Northeast Dubois (16-7) took over the top spot this week.
The Class A baseball sectional was scheduled to begin on Wednesday with the number four Shiners playing North Decatur. Second ranked Hauser will play Oldenburg.
The sectional was moved from Shawe to Jac-Cen-Del this season. Rising Sun was 2017 sectional champ.
