
The Rising Sun boys cross country team placed third in an eight team South Dearborn Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 16th.
Williamstown scored 62 to edge out Southwestern with 65. Rising Sun as next with 93 followed by Oldenburg 99, Beechwood 104, South Ripley 130, Jac-Cen-Del 145, and Milan 164.
Southwestern’s Bradley Winston was division II winner in 16:51.
Rising Sun’s Trevor Levi was second to his Ohio River Valley Conference rival in 16:58.9. Shiner Nick Koons was 17th in 19:01 .2 followed by Dalton Vinup 19th (19:21.8), Noah Pflum 23rd (19:33.1), Jake Powell 32nd (20:35.3), Peyton Bell 35th (20:53.4) and Daniel Daugherty 44th (21:26.2).
Oldenburg Academy won the girls meet with 62 followed by Beechwood 67, Jac-Cen-Del 79, Switzerland County 110, South Ripley 128, Milan 136, Rising Sun 147, and Southwestern 162.
Switzerland County’s Leah Anders dominated the field with a time of 20:12. Oldenburg’s Melinda Eckstein was runner up i 20:44 followed by South Ripley’s Megan Cole in 21:04.
Rising Sun was led by a fifth place finish by Kasey Baker in 21:45. Lucy Carrigan was 10th in 23:25.4 followed by Kora Powell 41st (27:19.3), McKenzie Ellegood 45th (28:25.9), Keira Mann 46th (29:49.9), Kaleigh Mann 48th (20:56) and Abby Wallace 51st (33:36.8).
Rising Sun competed in the Big Blue Invitational at Jennings County on Tuesday.
Jennings County was first with 20 followed by Batesville 55, Southwestern 77, Rising Sun 122, South Ripley 154, Scottsburg 158, Austin 179, Madison 180, and Switzerland County 264.
Dalton Craig of Jennings County won the 3.1 mile race in 15:48.
Trevor Levi was seventh in 16:49. Other finishers included: 21 Nick Koons 18:05; 40 Dalton Vinup 19:20; 41 Noah Pflum 19:33; 45 Jake Powell 19:50; 51 Peyton Bell 20:11 and 63 Daniel Daugherty 20:45
Batesville won the girls meet with 32 followed by Jennings County 51, Madison 91, South Ripley 116, Switzerland Co. 137, Southwestern 158, Scottsburg 172, Austin 200, Rising Sun 232.
Leah Anders of Switzerland County, won in 19:27.
Rising Sun’s top runner Kasey Baker did not run because of a conflict with soccer.
Senior Lucy Carrigan led RS with a 20th place time of 22:35. Other places and times included: 65 Kora Powell 26:42; 68 Brooke Taylor 27:59; 69 Kaleigh Mann 28:39; 73 McKenzie Ellegood 29:33; and 75 Chloe Fletcher 34:40.
Rising Sun will run in the Pumpkin Invitational tonight (Thursday) and Courier Invitational Saturday at 10 a.m. at Hanover College. The regular season closes with the Ohio River Valley Conference at Hanover on Saturday, Sept. 30th.
