Rising Sun boys’ soccer moved into first place by itself after a come from behind 6-5 win over Jac-Cen-Del on Homecoming night, Friday, Sept. 11.
Coach Mike Seipel’s Shiners improved to 4-0 in Ohio River Valley Conference play with the win, the 198th of Seipel’s career.
Jac-Cen-Del scored early lead on a trio of Tyler Huff goals within the first 10 minutes.
Jacob Bovard scored on an assist from Angelo Gallegos before Gallegos picked up a goal on an assist from Bryant Housemyer.
Huff scored the fourth of his five goals to give JCD a 4-2 lead at the half.
Rising Sun reversed the flow in the second half, scoring four while holding the visiting Eagles to a solo goal.
Housemyer led the way with a pair of goals to start the second half, one on an assist from Derrick Eldridge.
Huff answered with his fifth goal of the night but Housemyer knotted the game with his fourth.
Scott Webb scored off an assist from Claudio Gallegos for the winning goal.
Jason McClellan had six saves in goal for the Shiners.
McClellan scored three goals in a half of reserve soccer. The two teams tied at 3-3.
Rising Sun was scheduled to continue ORVC play as they host Shawe on Wednesday then Southwestern on Friday. The Shiners and Eagles will meet in a rematch on Monday at Osgood before a fourth straight conference game Wednesday at Milan.
The Shiners traveled to Oldenburg Academy and came up on the short end of a 4-0 decision.
The Class A fourth ranked Twisters scored on a penalty kick after a hand ball early in the contest. That’s all they needed. Tyler Camden got a yellow card after he went up for a head ball and both players went to the ground.
Later, Seipel said one of his layers went down away from the ball but there was no call.
The Shiners couldn’t take advantage of their speed on the small rolling field.
Rising Sun posted a non-conference 6-3 win over Trinity Lutheran on Tuesday, Sept.9.
Trinity’s Bobby Tabeling scored at 36:17.
Bryant Housemyer headed in a crossing pass from Derrick Eldridge to tie the game with 29:41 on the clock.
Tabeling made it 2-1 at 10:42 but Shiner Jacob Bovard tied the game again at 10:14 off a cross from Angelo Gallegos.
Bovard scored on a second Eldridge assist to make it 3-2 at the half.
Angelo Gallegos scored off an assist from Matt Martini with 38:39 to go.
Tabeling had a penalty kick with 37:40 left but missed the mark. He got another chance at 18:53 to pull Trinity within one at 4-3.
With 10:40 to play, Claudio Gallegos put away a rebounded shot. Housemyer added the final goal with 1:11 left.
Jason McClellan started in goal and had two saves before being shaken up and replaced by Eldridge, who finished with three saves.
