School protocols for
Winter Sports are set
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to move through our community and our world, Switzerland County High School athletic director Mark Boggs has issued the following statement with regard to upcoming winter sports:
As our winter sports season begins here at the high school we are all looking forward to supporting our student athletes as they compete. We are also looking forward to being able to watch them as sports fans.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important that everyone in attendance respects the social distancing guidelines as well as the emphasis on masks that follow the Governor’s principles to get “Back on Track”.
Indoor events are different from outdoor events. When in the gym we are limited to 500 total people, including the participants. All fans must wear a mask over their mouth and nose at all times unless they are eating. Fans are to be seated on the designated seats (marked by the yellow tape) and should be sitting in family groups. If not in family groups fans should respect social distancing.
There will be certain events, where we anticipate over 500 people, that we will pre-sale tickets. All children are to be seated with their families and are not be roaming the gymnasium.
We know that opinions are different on how this pandemic should be handled but we do hope that everyone wants to do all that they can to allow our young people the opportunity to compete in front of fans. If we have difficulty following these guidelines we may be forced to have contests with limited numbers of fans or no fans at all.
Let’s all come together to make the best of this for the sake of our student athletes.
