School presents budget, approves 2017 calender

The Rising Sun Ohio County School Board of Trustees held its annual budget hearing including bus replacement and capital projects plan on Thursday, Sept. 15th.

The final approval will take place on Thursday, Sept. 29th at 6:30 p.m.

The board selected the new calender for the 2017-18 school year.

Students will report on August 4th. Fall intersession Week will be Oct. 9-13 followed by Fall Break Oct. 16-20.

Thanksgiving break is Nov. 23-24 with Christmas Break Dec. 21- Jan-1.

Sprig Break will consist of Intersession week March 19-23 with possible make-up days. Spring Break is March 26-30.

Make up days include Martin Luther King Day (Jan. 15), President’s Day (Feb. 19), Spring Break (march 20-23), May 29-31 and June 1 if needed.

The last day of school will be May 30 with graduation on June 3.

The final extracurricular personnel positions were approved: Assistant baseball coaches- Mark Dugan, Steve Jimenez; Assistant softball- Alan Poling; Assistant track- Kelsie Baker; Volunteer boys’ basketball- Eric Fogle; Middle School soccer volunteers- Jacob Cole, Meghan Dunagan; Middle School Science/Math coach- Andrea Levi; Middle School Spell Bowl- Lindsey Merica; Middle School Social Studies and English- Jennifer Mossburger; Elementary Spell Bowl- Jennifer Mossburger.

Also, Jason Barth and Kelsie Baker (as needed) will be in charge of Fall Intersession. Amy Todd and Sue Walcott (as needed) will be in charge of Spring Intersession.

Morgan Westrich was hired as a special education aide.
