School enrollment up; principal interviews continue


Rising Sun Ohio County School Superintendent Branden Roeder told school board member that enrollment is up 34 students from a year ago during the regular monthly meeting on Thursday, February 9th.

“We’re up 17 from September,” reported Roeder, who presented a monthly Shiner Showcase of events held during the past month.

Roeder reported that the first round of interviews have been completed for a new elementary school principal. The top candidates will be interviewed a second time with a recommendation made at the March meeting.

Coaches were hired for the new middle school softball and baseball teams. Jamey Romans was named softball coach. Jacob Cole was named baseball coach with volunteers John Lemasters and David Brown.

Angie Wilson and Tonia Minks were hired as drama club leaders.

In other personnel, the retirements of Judy Thayer and Marcia Shaver were approved.

In other business, bids were accepted fro the schools computers for fourth through eighth grade. The low bid of $90,400 was taken under review.

Resolutions regarding credit card use and purchasing were reviewed.

Preschool prices will remain the same for next year with half day $10 and full day $20.
