The Switzerland County School Board held its March meeting on Monday night, and again the school board honored students from each of the four buildings as the “Celebrating Success” winners for the month.

Students are nominated by a teacher in the building; and one winner is then selected from those nominations by the building principal. Students and parents are then invited to the school board meeting; where each student is recognized and receives a pin of appreciation from the school board.

This month’s winners include:

– This month’s winner from Switzerland County Elementary School is fourth grader Chantel Ballard. She was nominated by teacher Shellie Fowler, and the nomination was approved by principal Mike Jones.

In her letter of recommendation, Shellie Fowler wrote:

“Chantel Ballard is an ‘All A’ student in the fourth grade at Switzerland County Elementary School. She has always had good attendance. Chantel is a leader in her class and is ready and willing to help her classmates and teacher with any tasks. She is in Drama Club, and will soon be performing in a play at school.”

– Brody Splain, a third grade student at Jefferson-Craig, is that school’s honoree for March. He was nominated by teacher Sandy Jones, and that nomination was approved by principal Dr. Elizabeth Jones.

In her letter of recommendation, Sandy Jones wrote:

“Brody Splain is a bright young man who applies himself. On the ISTEP test, he received a “Pass+” in both math and language arts. As a matter of fact, in language arts Brody received a perfect score of 690 on the test.

“Brody is consistently on the ‘All A’ Honor Roll. He is a member of the Principal’s Club and student council. He was also selected to participate in the Chinese instruction. Brody is active in basketball, baseball, 4-H, and is a member of the cast for the Jeff-Craig play. Brody has excellent attendance with a rate of 97.7-percent.”

– Seventh grader Kayli McElhany is this month’s honoree from Switzerland County Middle School. She was nominated by teacher Branden Roeder, and the nomination was approved by principal Nancy Stearns. She was unable to attend Monday night’s school board meeting.

In his letter of recommendation, Branden Roeder wrote:

“Kayli is a very hard working, bright young lady. She always has an excellent attitude towards other students, teachers, and school work. Kayli will make an incredible ‘Celebrate Success’ student because of her work ethic, attitude towards others, and personality.”

– Adam Kaczmarek, a junior at Switzerland County High School, was nominated for this month’s honor by teacher Janet Hendricks, and that nomination was approved by principal Candis Haskell.

In her letter of recommendation, Janet Hendricks wrote:

“Adam Kaczmarek, a junior and club vice president, has actively participated in the Junior Historical Society since enrolling as a ninth grader. His enthusiasm and drive has spurred our club to continue to take on projects and expand our activities.

“Whether we are raking leaves, digging out cellar steps, or guiding historic tours, Adam is always there, leading and helping. He is active in band, and his senior activity list will be full.”
