School Board to

reorganize Monday

The Switzerland County School Board will hold its official reorganizational meeting for 2019 this Monday, January 7th.

State statute says that reorganization meetings must be held after the first Monday but before the 15th of January for the new year.

The evening will begin with an executive session at 5:30 p.m., which is closed to the public. In accordance with Indiana State Law, a public entity wishing to meet in private must cite the specific state code that allows the meeting. For Monday night, the school board is citing IC 5-14-1.5-6.1(b)(9): “To discuss a job performance evaluation of individual employees. This subdivision does not apply to a discussion of the salary, compensation, or benefits of employees during a budget process.”

The meeting will begin with the swearing in of three new members to the school board. Current members Greg Bosaw and Joe Bennett will begin new terms; as will first time board member Adam Cole.

The reorganization meeting will begin at 6 p.m.; and a School Board President, Vice President, and Secretary will be elected; and a corporation treasurer/business manager will be appointed.

Other appointments will include a deputy treasurer and school board attorney; and the board members will also set meeting dates and times for the coming year; school board member benefits; and bonds for school personnel will also be set.

Appointments will also be made to board and ad-hoc committees; and conflict of interest statements will be signed by board members if any conflicts exist.

Also as a part of Monday’s meeting will be a required Board of Finance meeting, which will begin at 6:15 p.m.

Nominations will be held for the Board of Finance; and then a review of the corporation’s investment policies; a review of the investment report; an approval of depositories; and an outstanding check report will be heard.

The meeting is open to the public.
