School Board to hear ISTEP testing report


The Switzerland County School Board will hold its regular monthly meeting this Monday, February 19th. The meeting will be held at the Administration Office on West Main Street.

The school board will hold an executive session beginning, at 5 p.m., which is closed to the public. In compliance with Indiana law, a public entity must cite the specific code allowing the closed door meeting. For Monday’s meeting, the school board is citing Indiana Code 5-14-1.5-6.1(b)(9): “To discuss a job performance evaluation of individual employees. This subdivision does not apply to a discussion of salary, compensation, or benefits of employees during a budget process,” and also Indiana Code 5-14-1.5-6.1 (b)(6)(B): “To discuss, before a determination, the individual’s status as an employee, a student, or an independent contractor who is (i) a physician; or (ii) a school bus driver.”

The open meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Items on the agenda include:

– A presentation of ISTEP scores and graduation rates by Fred Ross and Marla Edwards.

– Reports by school board committees.

– In Old Business, the school board will consider NEOLA policy updates and revisions.

– In New Business, the board will consider the allowance of a transfer of funds; modifications to bus routes, and consideration of a request from a contract driver for extended bus use.

-Other items on the agenda include public comments; ECA recommendations of there are any; use of school facility requests if there are any; and there will also be a time for announcements by Superintendent Mike Jones.
