School Board races finalized

The deadline has now passed and the candidates are set for the four seats on the Switzerland County School Board that are up for election in November.

The deadline to file was noon last Friday, August 26th, and as the deadline passed, the Switzerland County Clerk’s Office announced that there will only be one contested race among the four positions.

Three of the four races are uncontested, meaning that current school board member Katie Collier in Pleasant Township and current school board member Josh Deck in York Township will both return to the board for four more years; and Amy (Jessup) Combs is unopposed in Cotton Township, and she will begin her first four year term on January 1st, 2017.

The only contested race is for the seat representing the Town of Vevay, where two residents, both first time school board candidates – Carla Burt and Tye Sullivan – will challenge for the post. The election will be county wide, even though the candidates will represent the town seat on the board.

Those four board members will join three others: Joe Bennett from Posey Township; Susan Jill Cord from Jefferson Township; and Greg Bosaw from Craig Township on the seven-member board, which oversees the operation of the Switzerland County School Corporation.

The school board election will be part of the general election on Tuesday, November 8th.
