The Rising Sun Ohio County School Board met Thursday, July 13th for its regularly scheduled meeting.
A long list of personnel approvals included Cheyanne Bowsman as elementary teacher; Dareen Seipel as high school moderate teacher; Cindy Harlow as four hour cafeteria worker and Bill Marksberry as bus driver.
Extracurricular activity positions filled included: Prom Sponsors- Teresa George and Deb Cappel; SADD- Kevin Wirsch; National Honor Society- Kevin Smith; Freshman class sponsor- Carrie Barwick; Sophomore class sponsor- Christina Rumsey; Choir director- Angie Wilson; Language Club- Mike Seipel; FCCLA- Tresa Patz;
Student Council advisor- Kevin Smith; Flag Corps advisor- Jana McKinley; Senior class sponsor/senior trip- Kevin Smith, Carol Stapleton and Sue Walcott; Junior class sponsor (entertainment book/concessions) Carol Stapleton, Ronna Billingsley;Yearbook advisor- carol Stapleton; Band director- Tyler Umpleby; Letterwinners- Brian Graham; high school academic team- Andrea Levi, Jaron Bovard.
Junior high coaching positions approved included: 6-7th grade volleyball- Tara Roeder; 8th grade volleyball- Gina Kremer; soccer- David Titkemeyer; cross country- Chandra Phillips; boys track- Caitlin Sauerhage; girls track- Aryn Webster;7th grade girls basketball- Gina Kremer; 8th grade girls basketball- Jessica Peelman. Kelsey Baker was named high school cross country assistant coach.
Superintendent Branden Roeder was given approval to post openings and change sub contract position to $5000 per year.
The student handbook was approved at its second reading
Bids were approved for milk (Prairie Farms), fuel (Laughery Valley Co-op), and bread (Klosterman Bakery).
Every staff member must have an extensive background check within five years according to legislation. The school will pay for the first round of background checks.
In other business, the board approved changing locks and adding deadbolt to each classroom beginning with kindergarten through second grade. The change came about after the school conducted an active shooter training session.
The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8th.
