The Switzerland County girls varsity track team finished second overall in a three-way meet on Thursday, April 9th, to open its season.
Jac-Cen-Del won the meet with a team score of 60; followed closely by Switzerland County with 56; and Rising Sun finished with 33 points.
“It was a solid first meet effort,” Coach Adam Pietrykowski said. “We did not compete in the long jump because of a wet board, and the points we gave up there cost us the meet.”
The Lady Pacers were led by distance runners Whitley Schirmer and Cameron Ray, who earned the only running wins; and McKayli Scudder, who earned first place in the high jump for the only field event victory.
Whitley Schirmer won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:45; while Cameron Ray won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 14:35. McKayli Scudder cleared 5′ to win the high jump.
Second place finishers for the Lady Pacers included the 3,200-meter relay team of Jade Mullins, Riley King, Katerina Svodoba, and Ray; Adeli Kinne in the 100-meter dash; the 400-meter relay team of Moriah Northcutt, Sophie Janiesh, Meltem Kaya, and Adeli Kinne; MacKenzie Covington in the 400-meter dash; Northcutt in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; King in the 800-meter run; Audrey Kinne in the 200-meter dash; and the 1,600-meter relay team of Mullins, Svodoba, Covington, and Northcutt.
Finishing third was Northcutt in the 100-meter hurdles; Emily Campbell in the 800-meter run; Brianna Vinup in the 200-meter dash; Natalie Newman in the shot put; and Jody Breeck in the discus.
