If it’s the beginning of a new year, then it must be time for the Rivertown Classic Basketball Tournament.

The tourney will be played again this year at South Dearborn High School; and will feature varsity boys and girls teams from Switzerland County, South Dearborn, Rising Sun, and Lawrenceburg.

The 2017 Rivertown gets started on Wednesday, January 4th, with girls action; when Switzerland County plays South Dearborn in the first game at 6 p.m.; and the second game that night will pit Rising Sun against Lawrenceburg at approximately 8 p.m.

Also on Wednesday night, the Switzerland County band will be performing for everyone during the Lady Pacer-Lady Knight game. The Lawrenceburg band will perform during Wednesday night’s second game.

On Thursday, January 5th, it’s the boys turn, as the same matchups are on the schedule: the Pacers will play South Dearborn at 6 p.m.; followed by the Shiners and Lawrenceburg at approximately 8 p.m.

The Rising Sun band will perform during the second game on Thursday night; with the South Dearborn band performing for Thursday night’s first game.

The girls teams return Friday night, January 6th; with the consolation game featuring the two losing teams from Wednesday night playing at 6 p.m.; and Wednesday’s winners will square off for the Rivertown Championship at approximately 8 p.m. Friday night.

Saturday night, January 7th, the boys title will be determined; with the consolation game of Thursday’s losing teams starting at 5:30 p.m. (Note the start time difference from prior nights). The championship game will begin at approximately 8 p.m.

The earlier start time on Saturday is because the annual cheerleader competition has been moved to Saturday from its previous Friday night slot.

Cheerleading teams will compete between the boys consolation and championship games; with the winning team being announced at halftime of the championship contest.

Tickets will be available at the door for both single sessions and for the entire tournament.

The girls game will begin at 6 p.m.; with the boys game following at approximately 7:15 p.m. The girls and boys jayvee teams from Rising Sun and Lawrenceburg will play at Rising Sun on Tuesday, January 3rd.

The winners from those games will play in the championship round on Saturday, January 7th, at Lawrenceburg. The girls title game will begin at 10 a.m.; with the boys championship game tipping off at approximately 11:30 a.m.

There will not be consolation games for the jayvee tournament.
