Rivertown Classic set for this week

The new year will be a busy one for the Switzerland County Lady Pacer and Pacer basketball teams; and both squads get 2009 started by participating in the annual Rivertown Classic tournament being held this week at South Dearborn High School.

Yesterday (Wednesday) the tournament opened with a girls game featuring Rising Sun and South Dearborn. That was to be followed by the Lady Pacers playing Lawrenceburg; and the Switzerland County band was to play during that game.

Tonight (Thursday), the boys tournament gets underway; and again Rising Sun will play South Dearborn in the first game at 6 p.m.; followed by Switzerland County and Lawrenceburg in the second contest of the evening.

Coming off of their defeat of state-ranked Guerin Catholic on Saturday, the Pacer boys look to make their mark at the state level against the fourth-rated Tigers in the Rivertown.

Tomorrow (Friday) will feature the two consolation games, for girls and boys teams; with the girls game beginning at 6 p.m. Friday will also be the night for the cheerleader competition, with the Switzerland County varsity squad competing.

The cheerleader competition will be held between games; with the winners being announced at halftime of the second game.

Saturday night is Championship Night, and the girls title tilt will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the boys championship game.

The winning cheerleading squad and the runner up squad will perform between the games.

Tournament tickets are $10; or each session is available at the door for $5 each night.
