Rivertown Classic set for next week

The year 2023 kicks off next week when the annual Rivertown Classic basketball tournament is played.

The tourney actually gets underway this Monday, January 2nd, when Switzerland County hosts two of the opening round games of the junior varsity portion. Beginning at 6 p.m., the Lady Pacer jayvee will play South Dearborn; with the second game seeing the Pacer boys junior varsity also playing South Dearborn.

The Rising Sun and Lawrenceburg jayvee teams will play each other on Monday evening.

The varsity tournament gets underway on Wednesday, January 4th, when Coach Brooke Todd’s Lady Pacers taking on South Dearborn in the first game starting at 6 p.m. The second game on Wednesday will pit Rising Sun against Lawrenceburg.

Action then shifts to the boys semifinals, which will be played on Thursday, January 5th — with the same match ups at the same times. Coach Travis Wrightsman’s Pacers will look for revenge against South Dearborn after dropping a regular season game earlier this year; with Rising Sun and Lawrenceburg battling in the second game.

On Friday night, January 6th, the girls consolation game featuring the losing teams from the two Wednesday games will play at 6 p.m.; and that will be followed by the girls championship game.

On Saturday, January 7th, the day will begin with the cheerleading competition, which will be held at noon. The winners will be announced at Saturday night’s games.

The boys consolation game will be played on Saturday with tip off at 6 p.m.; with the boys championship game being played following that.

The championship games of the junior varsity Rivertown Classic will be played at Lawrenceburg on Monday night, January 9th. There are no consolation games for the jayvee tourney.
