The pairings for the 2018 Rivertown Classic basketball tournament have been announced.
The tournament will again feature the four teams that formerly competed in the single-class Sectional tournament: Switzerland County, Rising Sun, Lawrenceburg, and host South Dearborn. Again this year the tourney will feature both boys and girls games, as well as the cheerleader competition. There will be varsity and junior varsity tournaments.
The varsity portion of the Rivertown Classic opens on Wednesday, January 3rd, when Switzerland County plays South Dearborn in the first game of the girls tournament. That game will start at 6 p.m. It will be followed by the second girls game, featuring Lawrenceburg and Rising Sun, and that game is expected to tip off at approximately 8 p.m.
The boys tourney then gets going on Thursday, January 4th, with the same match ups. Switzerland County and South Dearborn will play in the first game at 6 p.m.; with Rising Sun and Lawrenceburg squaring off in the second game at approximately 8 p.m.
Friday, January 5th will see the completion of the girls tournament, with the consolation game with the two losing squads from Wednesday’s action starting at 6 p.m.; and the championship game will start at approximately 8 p.m. that night.
The boys varsity tournament will wrap up the four-day event on Saturday, January 6th, with the consolation game at 6 p.m. and the championship tilt at approximately 8 p.m.
Also on Saturday, January 6th, the cheerleading competition will be held. The cheer squads from the schools will be competing between the consolation and championship games, with the winning squad being announced at halftime of the boys championship game.
All tournament games will be played at South Dearborn High School.
