Rising Sun graduate Brady Murray has been named baseball’s second team All State for Class 1A.
Murray was joined by Jac-Cen-Del’s Tyler Huff as a second team selection while JCD’s Reuben Benham was named to the Class 1A first team.
Murray led Rising Sun to an 11-1 conference championship and 15-5 overall mark. In his senior season he led the Shiners with a .481 batting average, with 25 hits, 22 runs scored, 15 RBIs, three doubles, one triple and three home runs. He added 12 walks and a team best .582 on base percentage along with a .750 slugging percentage. He had 10 stolen bases also.
The RSHS catcher did not commit an error in 120 total chances.
Murray was voted team captain and shared the MVP award with classmate Kurtis Armstrong. Murray was batting champ for the second straight season (hitting .453 as a junior with 34 hits and a .516 on base percentage in 23 games.
Murray was voted the 2015-16 Most Valuable Male Athlete at Rising Sun High School where he earned 13 letters including 4 basketball, 4 baseball, 4 golf, and 1 soccer. Rising Sun won the all-sports trophy three straight seasons.
Rising Sun posted a 70-23 record during Murray’s career including a 40-8 mark in Ohio River Valley Conference play.
In addition to being named all-conference in baseball, Murray shared medalist and MVP honors in golf with Aron Walker. Murray won the mental attitude award also.
Murray continues the success on the diamond which has been part of coach Kevin Wirsch’s Shiner teams.
Austin Armstrong was first team all-state last year and an honorable mention the year before.
Nathan Hannan was first team in 2012 and 2013 with David Huber honorable mention in 2013.
Jake Willhite was honorable mention in 2011 and Tyler Jones honorable mention in 2009.
