May 19th, 1966
The 43 members of the graduating class at Rising Sun High School will receive their diplomas on Tuesday, May 24th at 8 p.m. in the high school gym. The Reverend Reed M. Stevens, pastor of the Ridgeport Methodist Church in Indianapolis, will deliver the commencement address. The invocation will be made by Reverend Dorothy Hinds and the benediction by Reverend Floyd Haislup. James Maurer, Class President, will deliver the welcome address. The high school band will provide special music.
On Sunday, May 22nd at 8 p.m. in the high school gym, the baccalaureate address will be given by Thomas Kennedy, student minister of the First Presbyterian Church. Ann Whitlock will provide special music. Reverend Ned A. Meckstroth will pronounce the invocation and Reverend Cecil Styons, Sr. will offer the benediction. Reverend Charles Noss will present the scripture reading.
Nada Christine Huron was honored as Valedictorian and Trudy Ann Keith was honored as Salutatorian for the Class of 1966.
Funeral services for Dr. Wesley M. Hall, 85, were conducted Monday from the Detmer and Detmer Funeral Home. Burial was in the Rising Sun New Cemetery. Mrs. Gladys Reed was organist and the officiating ministers were Reverend F. B. Taylor and Reverend Charles Noss. Graveside services were conducted by the American Legion Post 59 and 40 et 8 services were held Sunday. Dr. Hall, one of the state’s oldest practicing physicians, died Friday night. He had practiced medicine for 59 years.
The annual Memorial Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30th at the American Legion Home.
The Rising Sun Chapter of the National Honor Society includes Seniors Martha Espey, Nada Huron, Gwen Salyer, Phyllis Rice, Trudy Keith, Tom Brown, Mavis VanTyle, and Paula Cook. The senior members were honored Saturday evening at a dinner at Anderson’s Restaurant with their sponsor Mr. Robert O’Neal.
The Granite Brick & Lumber Company, 601 Fourth Street, will close its doors May 21st. One of the old established businesses of Rising Sun, it has been managed for the past 28 years by Edwin Swinford.
Baccalaureate for the Patriot High School graduating class will be held May 22nd at 8 p.m. Graduation exercises will be on May 24th at 8 p.m. Diplomas will be presented by Principal William Roeschlein to the following: Theresa Bunger, Steve Robinson, Joy Flood, Bonita Froman, Linda Deck, Albert Detmer, Darlene Robinson, Lewis Kelley, Ronnie Mitchell, Dale Scudder, Sue Fitzgerald, Lynn Peebles, John Houston, Linda Buetle, Jim Huff, Eddie Shannon, Rex Loons, Terry Ellis, and Kenny Lavelle.
