Rising Sun downs Swiss in non-conference battle


The Rising Sun Lady Shiners traveled to Switzerland County on Thursday, Aug. 18th and earned their first win of the season over the Pacers.

The Shiners came out strong and won the first set 25-12 and the second 25-19. The Pacers came back strong set 3 and defeated RS 25 to 23, sending it to a fourth set.

Rising Sun fought back to get the win (25-23) and even their record to 1-1.

Lucy Carrigan led RS with 11 kills and four blocks. She had 15 digs and was 19-for-20 in service reception.

Danyka Groover added nine kills and a block while Claire Poling had six kills, Ally Pruiett five and Lucy Phelps three.

Poling led the team with 15-fo-16 sering and two aces. Phelps was 9-for-11 with two aces. Caroline Stapleton was 12-for-13 with four aces while posting 26 assists. Sydney Bostic was 11-for-12 and three aces while 19-for-21 in serve reception and 22 digs.

Jacqueline Stapleton was 9-for-9 serving and 12 digs. Poling added 19 digs.

The Lady Shiners were 59-for64 or 96 percent.

The Lady Pacers defeated Rising Sun in two sets (25-15, 25-22).

Kassidy Romans led RS with 9-for 13 serving and three aces. Rising Sun served 70 percent (27-for-35).

Abby Wallace had two kills for the Shiners.

Rising Sun opened its season on Tuesday, Aug. 16th with a loss to the 12th ranked Trinity Lutheran Cougars.

The host team won 25-16, 25-14, 25-11.

Rising Sun struggled in its hitting attack with eight kills in 41 attempts and 14 errors.

They served 85 percent with Bostic 6-for-6, Jacqueline Stapleton 5-for-5 ad an ace. Caroline Stapleton and Carrigan were 4-for-5 with an ace. Phelps added 7-for-9 with two aces.

Groover led the attack with four kills. Carrigan had two with Poling and Phelps one each.

Carrigan had four blocks with Groover adding three and one each by Phelps and Poling.

The JV was downed by the Lady Cougars 25-5, 25-11.

Rising Sun had 86 percent serving. Emma Sullivan was 3-for-3 while Sage Groover, Emma Levi and Abby Wallace were 2-for-2. Kassidy Romans was 4-for-5 with an ace.

Rising Sun had 20 service receptions and 19 errors.

Rising Sun travels to Madison Saturday then open Ohio river Valley Conference play at hoe with Shawe on Tuesday. They play South Ripley in a non-conference match on Wednesday in Rising Sun.
