As the Switzerland County Lady Pacers head into this Saturday’s Class 2A Regional at Paoli, their opponent – the North Posey Lady Vikings – is mostly unknown to fans here.
North Posey High School is located in Poseyville, Indiana, which is the county seat of Posey County – located in the ‘toe’ of Indiana in the far western corner.
The Lady Vikings come into the Regional with an overall record of just 12-15 – but that could be misleading, because North Posey holds a 6-1 overall record against their Sectional opponents; and they also play several Class 3A and Class 4A schools in the Evansville area during the regular season.
Head coach Terry Stroud is in his seventh season at North Posey, and has a career record of 94-68. The Lady Vikings have an overall offensive scoring average of 45.3 points per game; but have given up an average of 50.4 points per game.
North Posey closed its regular season losing three of its final five games; but bounced back in the Forest Park Sectional to win three straight.
The Lady Vikings defeated Perry Central in the opening round 48-41; then beat South Spencer in the semifinal by a score of 58-47. In the championship game, North Posey defeated Forest Park 44-42.
Switzerland County and North Posey will play in the first game on Saturday at Paoli, which is slated for 10 a.m. Switzerland County time.
The Lady Pacers enter Regional play with a record setting overall record of 20-5.
In Saturday’s second game, Providence (20-5) will play North Knox (18-8) at approximately noon. The two winners will then square off for the Regional title on Saturday night, with tip off expected at 8 p.m.
The Paoli Regional champion will then play in the Class 2A Semistate on Saturday, February 28th, at either Richmond or Jeffersonville.
