The 16th Annual Rising Sun QuiltFest will be held April 6-8 at the Rising Sun History Museum (212 S. Walnut St.) and hosted by the Ohio County Historical Society.

The Rising Sun quilt event originated inside long-time residents Betty Ann and Lloyd Pavy’s former furniture store. After the couple’s retirement, the Ohio County Historical Society continued the tradition by hosting the event.

The public is invited to participate in the annual quilt contest.

Quilting helps raise funds Quilting has always been popular with the women on Rising Sun and Ohio County. This group of ladies from the Monday Nite Club presented this quilt to the Rising Sun Volunteer Fire Department to raffle. Shown representing the fire department are Gary Brett, Dutch Miller and Timmy Teke. Club members are Dorothy ashcraft, Lillian Baldwin, Hazel Sullender, Alice Ashcraft, Juanita Liggett, and Claire Ashcraft.

Quilt submissions will be accepted at the Rising Sun History Museum no later than Wednesday, March 28. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4 p.m. A $10 fee per judged entry will be required. The number of non-judged entries accepted will be determined by available space.

Entries will be accepted in: applique, pieced, mixed technique, novelty, art quilt and artwork. Cash awards will be given for first and second place (with the exception of the non-judged category) provided there are sufficient entries. Monetary awards will be given for a Best in Show, People’s Choice and the Rising Sun Mayor’s Award.

Along with the quilt contest, the event will feature special exhibits, raffles, door prizes, live music provided by West of Dublin, vendors and daily demonstrations.

Three-day public admission to the April 6-8 QuiltFest is $5 per person.  Event hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
