County offices see Primary races

Tuesday’s Primary Election here in Switzerland County saw one contested race for an office in the County Courthouse, with Nancy Brown Barker defeating Vicky Hinman in the Democratic primary for County Recorder.

Barker finished with 547 votes to Hinman’s 338. Barker won 11 of Switzerland County’s 12 precincts; with the two candidates tying in Cotton I precinct with 50 votes each.

Currently there is no Republican candidate for the County Recorder’s post for the November General Election.

Incumbent County Treasurer Vickie Bailey James was unopposed in the Democratic Primary on Tuesday for reelection, and she received 791 votes.

There was no Republican candidate on Tuesday’s Primary ballot.

Both parties had candidates running for the office of County Coroner in the Primary; and Republican Clinton Earls and Democrat Alicia Fritter were both unopposed in the primary and will square off in the November General Election.

On Tuesday, Earls received 898 votes; while Fritter garnered 743 votes.

Republican County Surveyor Brian McAllister was unopposed for reelection on Tuesday, and he finished with 937 votes.

There currently is no Democrat running for the office in November.
