Prevent Child Abuse Council holds observance at courthouse

The Switzerland County Prevent Child Abuse Council observed Child Abuse Prevention Month on Saturday morning with a special program held at the Switzerland County Courthouse.

The council works to bring awareness and information to the community about the problem of child abuse; and works to find ways to help individuals overcome this problem.

At Saturday’s observance, blue pinwheels were places around the gazebo at the courthouse. Each pinwheel represented a child’s death in the State of Indiana during 2008.

Barbara Fletcher and Kacey Sullivan of the Prevent Child Abuse Council each had a short reading as part of the observance; and a moment of silence was held in honor of those children who have died as a result of abuse and neglect.

Pinwheels were also placed around the bench at the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department that honors the late Steve Adams, a deputy on the Switzerland County Department who worked with children.
