Plenty of Christmas events set in Switzerland County


The Switzerland County community is in the midst of the Christmas holiday season, and many churches and other organizations are holding special services and events in celebration of the holiday season.

Here’s a listing of some of the upcoming events:

“Making Christmas Merry For Morgan.” Many people are aware of Morgan Cloutier’s fight against Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Her family was recently denied Medicaid; so this Christmas friends are asking for others to join in to help make Christmas merry for Morgan. If you would like to participate please send a Christmas Card to Morgan along with $5 and smile knowing you are helping the Cloutiers have a Merry Christmas. Patriot Main Street has announced its annual Christmas lighting contest.

Patriot Main Street, along with various businesses, is again sponsoring the “Winter Holidays Decorating Contest.” Judging will be held tonight (Thursday) or tomorrow (Friday) between 6-8 p.m. Be sure to have your lights on then.

Ebenezer Wesleyan Church will hold a special Candlelight Service tomorrow (Friday) night, December 21st. The service will begin at 7 p.m., and everyone is invited.

The church is located on State Road 129 near Moorefield, and David Dicken is the church’s pastor.

Riverview Baptist Church will be holding a Live Nativity Scene this Saturday, December 22nd. The event will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and there will also be homemade cookies and holiday tea for everyone to enjoy. The church is located at 1341 Spring Branch Road, west of Vevay, and everyone is invited to attend.

Switzerland Baptist Church will be holding its Children’s Christmas program this Sunday evening. The program is titled, “The Greatest Gift of All”, and will begin at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

Switzerland Baptist Church is located at the corner of Main Cross and Pike streets in Vevay.

Patriot Baptist Church will hold a Community Christmas Service on Sunday evening, December 23rd. The service will begin at 6:30 p.m.; and will celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ; and will also serve as a memorial for loved ones who have passed away.

There will be special music and Christmas readings; and everyone is invited to attend. Mike Jones is the Patriot Baptist Church pastor.

Olive Branch Baptist Church will be holding a special Christmas Eve service on Monday, December 24th. The service will begin at 6 p.m., and will feature lots of special music, readings, and a special message. Everyone is invited to attend. The church is located on Bear Branch Road approximately two miles north of Fairview off of Highway 250.

Vevay United Methodist Church invites everyone to the annual Christmas Eve Cantata to be held in Ruter Chapel’s sanctuary at 8 p.m. on Monday, December 24th.

The service will include congregational carols, the Chancel Choir performing, “Jesus, the Heart of Christmas” with Ron Baker as the narrator. An open Communion, served by Pastor Roger Parrott, will be celebrated. A candle lighting accompanied by the singing of Silent Night will close the service.

Following the service, everyone is invited to the Fellowship Hall for a reception celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
