Plenty of activities going on at this year’s 4-H Fair!

The 2019 edition of the Switzerland County 4-H Fair is now in full swing, and with beautiful summer weather and plenty of activities and events, the rest of the week promises to see big crowds.

The fair is continuing nightly and runs through the livestock auction this Saturday afternoon, July 13th.

This year’s fair was highlighted by the return of carnival rides, provided by Derby City Amusements. The rides are taking the place of grandstand events this year, with many of the rides being located in the grandstand area. Fairboard members hope that the return of amusement rides will attract more visitors to this year’s fair, and bring back that “old time fair” feeling for the entire county.

Rides opened last night (Wednesday) and will be open tonight (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday) from 5-10 p.m.; and on Saturday from 4-10 p.m. Cost is $1.50 per ticket; or all you can ride bands for one day are $20.

Here’s a rundown for the remainder of the 2019 Fair Week:

  —  In a scheduling change, today (Thursday), gets started with the Swine check in from 7-10 a.m.; with all livestock record sheets due between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The dairy show will be held today beginning at 1 p.m.; with the Goat Show at 5 p.m. sponsored by the Vevay Switzerland County Foundation.

  —  Tomorrow (Friday) begins with swine auction pictures being taken from 8-10 a.m.; and one of the most popular projects, as the Shooting Sports demonstration takes place beginning at 9 a.m. at the Switzerland County Sportsman’s Club on Bennington Pike. The dog agility contest will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m., followed by the Swine Show sponsored by Kelso Builders at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m. that evening “Silly Safari” will present a show, sponsored by the Switzerland County Soil and Water Conservation District.

  —  The final day of the 2019 Fair kicks off on Saturday with the Round Robin Showmanship competition beginning at 8 a.m. That will lead up to the 4-H Livestock Auction at 2 p.m.; and the auction barbecue will start at 4 p.m.

Projects will be released on Saturday from 5-7:30 p.m.

The 4-H Exhibit Hall will be open today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday) from 4-9 p.m.; and on Saturday from 2-5 p.m.
