Patriot Parade this Tuesday

The town of Patriot will again celebrate the 4th of July this Tuesday with its annual Patriotic Parade. This year’s parade is scheduled to come down Main Street beginning at 11 a.m.

Line-up for the parade will be at the Patriot Boat Ramp just outside of town and will begin at 9 a.m.; and the flag ceremony and re-dedication will be at the Patriot Memorial Park immediately after the Parade. The ceremonies at the Memorial Park will then be followed by a pitch-in dinner and activities in Harris Park.

This year’s festivities will be highlighted by the re-dedication of the Memorial Park. First completed in 2007, the Town of Patriot has spent nearly $25,000 this year in rebuilding the structure, complete with new signage and decorations. Included in the re-dedication will be the addition of a plaque honoring the World Trade Center, and the actual debris secured by the Patriot Fire Department and added to the park in 2011.

This year, the Patriot Park Board is sponsoring a bicycle decorating contest for children aged 3-12 years of age. The judges will be looking for the use of the colors red, white and blue as well as creativity. Costumes may be worn but must not interfere with the rider’s vision. Likewise, decorations must not interfere with the safe operation of the bicycle. Bicycles can be two or three wheeled and training wheels are permitted. No motorized bikes or cars will be allowed to compete. All contestants ages 3-6 must be accompanied by an adult. A liability waiver must also be completed and submitted for each contestant. Registration forms are available at the Patriot Town Hall, 352 3rd Street in Patriot.

Parade organizers would like to share that no helmets will be required for anyone participating in the Parade.

In addition to needing judges for the bicycle decorating contest, the Patriot Town Board is asking for volunteers to assist in the setup at Harris Park before the parade; and the subsequent clean up afterwards. Anyone interested in volunteering may contact the Patriot Town Hall (812) 594-2243; or any of the Patriot/Posey Park Board members: Stephany Abplanalp, Nicole Renyer, Jerry Turner, Samantha Hankinson and Marlin Abplanalp.
