It’s been 10, very long years since we lost Deputy Steven B. Adams of the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department to natural causes. As his friend and co-worker, I was very honored to be invited to attend the memorial for Stevie held by the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office on Friday at 3 p.m. If you knew Stevie, you knew he enjoyed his “3 p.m. Cake and Coffee” tradition and so this year he was honored with cake, cupcakes and coffee by friends and coworkers, past and present. A small man in stature, some of his friends called him “Rooster” but the influence he had on this community was anything but small. If it hadn’t been for Stevie, I for one would have never known about the infamous “Murder on Music Row”. He and Nathan Hughes had been friends since second grade and just to watch the two of them banter back and forth used to brighten my day regardless. He was so proud of his daughter and so excited by the birth of his little granddaughter. Rumor has it that cans of Natural Light beer have been known to decorate his final resting place. His spirit however still touches my soul.
The October meeting of the Red HOT Hatters will be on Monday, October 10th at the home of Red Hatter Lisa Fisher. This will be a pitch-in so everyone is to bring their favorite dish. The November meeting has not as yet been decided but the Red HOT Hatters already have reservations for our third annual “Christmas at the Mansion” luncheon: it will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 12th at the beautiful Benjamin Schenck Mansion in Vevay. Just come, make new friends and have a good time!

CARAMEL APPLE PIE COOKIE BARS
1 package – Pillsbury “Ready to Bake
Big Deluxe Refrigerated
20 oz. Can – Apple Pie Filling
6-10 Pieces of Caramel Candy
Line an 8 inch square pan with cooking
Press 9 cookies into the bottom of pan .(Corner to corner)
Top with the apple pie filling.
Crumble remaining cookies over pie filling.
Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees, then Cool for 30 minutes.
Microwave the Caramels on High for 1 min.
Drizzle Caramel over the cooled bars.
