The East Enterprise Homemakers hosted a luncheon last Wednesday at the New Liberty Baptist Church for the Posey Tappers. The food was fabulous, the fellowship heartwarming and the storytelling hysterical.

The Switzerland County Homemakers Craft Day activities held last Thursday at the TEC Center exceeded everyone’s expectations.

The November meeting of the Red HOT Hatters was held last Friday at Janet’s Diner located in Dillsboro. Lisa Fisher, Shannon Phipps, Melodee Stepleton, Claudia Dawson, Deanna Graham, Joyce Johnson, Marie Cole and Kay Cook attended.

The seventh Annual Red HOT Hatter Christmas luncheon will be held on Thursday, December 19th at the Pleasants Rose Mansion Inn located at 806 W. Market Street in Vevay. Festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will include a meal of roast pork, red potatoes, salad, bread, dessert and drinks for $20., which will include all taxes and gratuities. Anyone may attend. Reservations must be made to either Joyce Johnson or Kay Cook by December 10th.

The Red HOT Hatters have several options this year for giving back to our community this Christmas season: Operation Christmas Child – shoeboxes filled with toys, Angel Tree, Switzerland County Animal Shelter and inmates of the Switzerland County Jail.

“Samaritan’s Purse”, headed by Franklin Graham, collects Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes filled with toys and other fun items and delivers them to children in need around the world in partnership with local churches.  Brochures and the boxes are available and there is a request of an additional $9 shipping donation which will enable you to be notified of the final destination of the gift. Collection date by today (Thursday, November 21st) to Kay Cook.

Angel Tree would again appreciate hats and gloves for children from infant to aged 18 both male and female. In addition, personal hygiene items will be collected to distribute shampoo, toothpaste, body wash and/or bars of soap.  These items will need to be turned into the State Farm Office (401 Ferry Street) by December 5th.

The Switzerland County Animal Shelter’s Wish list includes dry dog/puppy food, dry cat/kitten food, canned cat food, cat litter, bones/treats (milkbones), durable chew toys (i.e. Kongs), nylon collars (all sizes), towels, sheets and blankets. Also cleaning supplies: bleach, Dawn dish soap, 39 gallon trash bags, kitchen size trash bags, zippered baggies, paper towels and laundry detergent. For Rescues, they need:  gas cards, zip ties, gently used plastic crates and driving volunteers. Donations may be brought to the December 19th Christmas luncheon or contact Kay Cook for pick up.

The Switzerland County Jail inmates would greatly appreciate paperback books or puzzle books. No magazines, please. Donations may be brought to the December 19th Christmas luncheon or contact Kay Cook for pick up.

Prayer list: Firefighter Ron Brunner, Barbara Barnhill, Nick Oogelsang, Eva Fette, Connie Knight, Reverend Steve Ward, Travis Bailey, Eric Simon, Abby Galbreath, Ellyn Kern and Jerry Brown, John Campbell, Sharon and Bill Levell, Jake and Mickie Rader, Patty Banschbach and Red HOT Hatters Carla Burt, Mary Christiani, Sandy Dawson, Juanita Giltner, Barb Dowdy, Laura Riga and June Lack.

I found this recipe for making pancakes from muffin mixes and can’t wait to try it!  The mixes suggested were Martha White, but it should work for any 7-8 oz. packet of muffin mix:

1 – Pkg. (7-8 oz.) Muffin Mix

Chocolate, Banana Nut, Apple Cinnamon or Blueberry

2/3 Cup of Milk

– Egg

Mix the muffin mix with the milk and egg.  Makes approximately 7 good sized pancakes.
