Absentee Early Voting for the Town of Patriot will be held at the Patriot Town Hall located at 352 Third Street on the following dates and at the times listed:
• Today (Thursday, October 31st) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Tomorrow (Friday, November 1st) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Monday, November 4th from 10 a.m. until noon.
On Election day, Tuesday, November 5th, Patriot Town Hall will be open for voting from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Remember to bring proper photo identification with you.
Tonight (Thursday, October 31st, Halloween night) at 5:30 p.m., Patriot will hold another, town wide costume contest in the parking lot located at the intersection of Highways 250 and 156. In addition, everyone is invited to participate in the “Trunk or Treat” at that location. The official hours for the Town of Patriot to celebrate Halloween will be 6-8 p.m.
A Memorial Gathering will be held for Dr. Fidelia ”Del” Valenzuela from noon until 1 p.m. this Saturday, November 2nd at the Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home located at 208 Ferry Street in Vevay. Memorial Services will then be conducted at 1 p.m. Dr. Valenzuela, age 83, passed away on Sunday, September 8th in Muncie, Indiana.
This Saturday, November 2nd, there will be a public search for Brittany Hammond hosted by the Texas Equusearch, Ohio/Midwest Chapter. Volunteers should be ready to commit to the full day beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. The Command Center will be at the East Enterprise Fire Department Station #2 located at 15337 Hill Rd in Florence, Indiana. Those participating must be 18 years old with valid ID. This will be a foot search only. Please do not bring ATVs, horses, or dogs. Dress appropriately for the weather and wooded areas and please bring gloves (work gloves). Water will be provided. Please bring any snacks or lunch you wish. The East Enterprise Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a Pot Luck Benefit Dinner for Firefighter Ron Brunner on Saturday, November 9th, from 3-7 p.m. at Station #1 located at 13091 State Road 56 in East Enterprise. Ron has been a volunteer firefighter with EEVFD for well over 10 years and could use some help with some medical expenses that he has recently incurred. He personally helped me clean up after my house fire seven years ago this month and he is truly, a good and hardworking member of our community. In addition to the dinner, donations for a Raffle and Silent Auction are being collected. Contact Bev (812) 534-2080 or Violet (812) 534-3602 to plan for those items. There will be a free will offering made that night with all proceeds going directly to Firefighter Brunner.
The Patriot Baptist Church’s Annual Veterans Service will be held on Sunday, November 10th, at 11 a.m. A luncheon will be held after the service at the Patriot Town Hall. The community is invited. The Patriot Baptist Church was built in 1889 and is located at 156 Main Street in Patriot.
The November meeting of the Red HOT Hatters will be on Friday, November 15th, at 11 a.m. at Janet’s Diner located in Dillsboro, Indiana. Arrangements are being made to carpool. Contact Kay E. Cook at (812) 594-2281 for additional information.
Ivan and Dollie Green and Mary Lynn Reese went to Indy last Friday to attend the Heritage Christian High School Senior Night for Sam Azbell. His football team won their game with South Putnam High School 30-6. Saturday morning, Charla Azbell took them to Russellville, Kentucky to meet Marita Gregory Vornhem of Knoxville, Tennessee. They were having their yearly Gregory Family Reunion. Of the eight siblings, seven are still alive: Jimmy passed away a few years ago. Dollie and Marita have been good friends since the first grade. The Gregory Family lived in the big brick house by Bobby Scudder’s garage on Main Street. Scudder’s Garage used to be Reese Brothers Garage and was owned by Dollie’s dad and uncle.
The Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church held its Annual Parish Picnic last Thursday at the home of Paul and Sharon Schmitt. Approximately 31 people were in attendance.
