Patriot News 10/15/2020

Happy 35th Anniversary to my best-est buddy Sharon Levell and her hubby Bill this past Sunday! Former Patriot residents, they now live in Rising Sun.

This Friday, the Red HOT Hatters are going to celebrate both Christmas and Halloween at the same time for a great big Red HOT Hatter “Xtra Fun Xtravaganza” on October 16th at the home of Co-Queen Joyce Johnson. Activities will begin at 11 a.m. Attendees are asked to bring side dishes of veggies, salads, or desserts.  Don’t forget your Halloween costume!  And just for fun, we’re adding our Christmas gift exchange valued at $10-15. Joyce resides at 6064 Firth Addition in Vevay. This will probably be the last meeting of 2020.

Again, this year, the Red HOT Hatters have decided to continue with our annual Christmas gift giving to both Angel Tree and the Switzerland County Animal Shelter.

Angel Tree would again appreciate hats and gloves for children from infant to aged 18 both male and female. In addition, personal hygiene items will be collected to distribute shampoo, toothpaste, body wash and/or bars of soap.

The Switzerland County Animal Shelter wish list includes dry dog/puppy food, dry cat/kitten food, canned cat food, cat litter, bones/treats (milkbones), durable chew toys (i.e. Kongs), nylon collars (all sizes), towels, sheets and blankets. Also Cleaning Supplies: bleach, Dawn dish soap, 39 gallon trash bags, kitchen size trash bags, zippered baggies, paper towels and laundry detergent.  For Rescues, they need:  gas cards, zip ties, gently used plastic crates and driving volunteers.

Donations for both the Angel Tree and the Switzerland County Animal Shelter may be brought to the October luncheon or contact Kay Cook for pick up at (812) 594-2281 or (317) 443-8857.

Don’t forget!  Voting this year will not be at the Patriot Town Hall but will instead be at the Posey Township Fire Department located 18474 Highway IN-250 on Tuesday, October 27th from 8 a.m. to 12 Noon and Wednesday October 28th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Please continue very special prayers for Eylah Leppert and her parents as she struggles with her health issues.

Prayer List: Posey Tappers Kathryn Turner, Jake and Mickie Rader and Lulu Belle Thomas; Bill and Sharon Levell; Red HOT Hatters Laura Riga and June Lack; Eylah Leppert, Firefighter Ron Brunner, Pam Minch, Barbara Barnhill, Barbara DeNoon, Ellyn Kern and Jerry Brown. As well as all law enforcement officers and their families as well as everyone affected by the current national unrest; everyone affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anyone interested in purchasing the Historical Sketch of the Town of Patriot  by H.F. Emerson (1931) that I have featured for several months may do so at the Patriot Town Hall for $10.

Just in time for Halloween!  How about some Hocus Pocus Buns? They’re called that because the marshmallows ‘disappear’. Aunt Bea (Sharon Levell) and I are both anxious to try these.

• Cinnamon sugar

Pull apart and roll out crescent rolls on a lined cookie sheet.
