 My sincerest condolences and prayers of comfort to the families of both Carrie Ann Magyar and Angileah Staat. Such a shame to see a young life taken too soon.

  Labor Day reminds us that winter is inevitable so enjoy every bit of beautiful weather that you can! My mimosa trees and rose of sharons have helped transform my back yard into my own little tropical paradise and I have been out there nearly every day. Give me my umbrella, a tube of sunscreen, a can of bug spray, a comfortable chair and a good book and I am actively rehearsing for my dream Florida vacation. That ‘white stuff’ will be here before you know it!

  The Red HOT Hatters will be breaking from tradition this month and will hold their meeting as a dinner on Thursday, September 19th at the Ferry Street FUDO in Vevay at 4 p.m.

  In October for our traditional Halloween costume luncheon and meeting we will meet at the home of newly-appointed Queen Joyce Johnson on Thursday, October 17th at 11 a.m. Attendees are asked to bring side dishes of veggies, salads or desserts. Joyce resides at 6064 Firth Addition in Vevay.

  Get out the crock pot! This recipe is for a whole ‘mess’ of hungry folks and it sounds so good:

“Best EVER Cowboy Beans”

1 lb. Ground Beef

1 lb. Bacon, cooked & crumbled

2 T. Bacon Drippings

3 cans (15 oz.) Kidney Beans

3 cans (15oz.) White Beans

3 (15 oz.) Pork & Beans

3 Small Onions, diced

1 Cup Lt Brown Sugar

1 Cup Ketchup

½ Cup Molasses

3 T. Yellow Mustard

  In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and onions until the meat is no longer pink; drain.

  Drain all of the beans except for one can of pork and beans. Combine the beans, the cooked ground beef and onions, and the remaining ingredients into your crock pot.

  Cook for 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low.
