Fact Check: All three positions on the Patriot Town Board and Town Clerk will be filled this fall by public election. No one other than the Town Clerk is up for re-election. All individuals currently serving on this Board were appointed to fill vacancies.

Friday’s weather was exceptional. I therefore declared myself exempt from all worldly duties and very lazily reigned over all of my domain as it existed in my back yard. Umbrella up and chair cushions out, I decided to spend my day lounging with a book in one hand and a soft drink in the other. I shared my kingdom only with Very Special Agent Gibbs, one of my Two Terrible Twin Tomcats, and the official overseer of the ‘jungle’ within the fenced in back half of my property. All was well in our little kingdom until Gibbs decided to declare war on the poor butterflies munching on my mimosa trees. I quickly learned that those beautiful butterflies were little competition for my ferocious feline and that my feeble attempts to rescue the tiny critters were futile. Exasperated, I finally gave up the good fight and pulled weeds.  So goes the best made plans of mice and men…

Sunday dressed in my favorite Hawaiian attire and armed with a healthy dose of imagination, I escaped with my friend Mary McCarthy-Jones to a place “far, far away.” (Not really.) We did meet at the Grand Casino in Shelbyville for exquisite food, Mimosas (with champagne, not butterflies), shopping, some slots and a whole lot of girl talk. Such a refreshing change of pace!

Changes! The August Red HOT Hatter meeting and luncheon will now be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 15th at Mo’s Steakhouse in Vevay. This will change the regularly scheduled meeting from Friday and the previously announced destination from Madison. August 16th is the fifth anniversary of the passing of our Queen — Antoinette “Toni” Kniola and in memory of her, I am asking that those attending wear something red, purple or variations thereof. Hats would be wonderful but are not required. A special collection/drawing will be held to benefit the Antoinette “Toni” Kniola Red HOT Hatter Memorial Fund at the County Foundation of Switzerland County. Tentatively, the September meeting will be held at the Chinese restaurant “88 King Buffet” in Madison on Thursday, September 19th at 11 a.m.

My friend John Campbell formerly of Patriot called Saturday to check in. He fell last fall at age 92 and injured his arm. He has not as yet completely recovered and is requesting prayers.

For a super quick and easy recipe for a thirst quenching summer beverage, just mix together:

2 Cans of Sprite
