Happy Belated 92nd Birthday to Edith Bowden! Her daughter, Marie Cole, shared the scoop on her birthday bash with me at the Red HOT Hatter luncheon last Friday. It was my honor to meet Edith last October and she is a very lovely lady whom I understand is also a mean ‘Scrabble’ player.
Congratulations to Mary and Tony Christiani on the birth of still another great-granddaughter! Margot Christiani was born July 15th in Buffalo New York.
The Switzerland County Homemakers Annual Picnic was held on Wednesday, July 17th at the TEC Center. I attended with Posey Tappers: Wanda Benzing, Mary Christiani, Stasia Wiseman and Alanna Smith. The program included a cooking demonstration by Debbie Turner and a bow making exercise by Bonnie Simon. The day was filled with many activities and the food, of course, was superb.
The Red HOT Hatter meeting was held on Friday, July 19th at Jewell’s on Main in Warsaw, Kentucky. In addition to Claudia Dawson, Stasia Wiseman, Laura Hodges, Marie Cole and me, our guests included: Doreen Mair, April Meyring, Sylvia Scott, Janet Fay and Joan of Warsaw, Kentucky. The food was as delicious as always and it was great to have so many new faces join in the festivities!

With this hot weather, I rarely use my oven and only occasionally utilize the burners, but I always need sweets, so this week’s recipe is perfect:
2 cups sugar
1⁄4 cup margarine
1⁄2 cup milk
1 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups rolled oats (old fashioned)
In a large saucepan, mix sugar, margarine, and milk; bring to a full, rolling boil over med heat (full, rolling boil = large bubbles rising to surface that can’t be stirred down). Boil for one minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in peanut butter and vanilla, stirring until peanut butter is melted; stir in oats. Working quickly, drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper. Let cool completely.
