The end of July is one of the busiest times of year for children of all ages and their families. As the end of summer approaches, we all should look back on the wonderful memories we have made with family and friends over this past summertime.

As our nation was focusing on restoring normalcy to our country that had been closed down, families have been  hitting the road for some fun in the sun adventures. Many parents decided to take the opportunity to teach their children life lessons, and show them there is a lot outside the walls of the home. I have seen parents in the area helping their children build character by learning how to work hard, whether it be babysitting a younger sibling, mowing the yard and yard work. It’s never too early to start teaching children the meaning of responsibility and hard work.

As children head back to school and start talking to their friends about the grand adventures they had this year I hope they have amazing stories to tell. We all have that favorite vacation moment, I was just reminiscing about a trip I took about 16 years ago. I was blessed to have the opportunity to ride in a hot air balloon over Orlando, Florida….. I will cherish the memories and pictures of that adventure always.

The Patriot Baptist Church is busier than ever, weekly bible studies will be resuming soon. They had a guest minister, Tom Rogers, and Leona Adams played the baby grand piano a week ago, while Mike and Marlene Jones enjoyed a wonderful visit with family in New Orleans and celebrated Marlene’s birthday. Happy birthday!

The Evangelist Joe Jackson will be a guest  of the church on August 7th and 8th. There will be  prayer breakfast on August 7th at Town Hall in Patriot, sign up sheet is available at Patriot Baptist Church for the  breakfast. He will speak at the service on August 8th. This will be an event everyone wants to be a part of, Mr Jackson is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio where he was a star football player for Withrow high school, he went onto play for New Mexico State, then to the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings. Since retiring he has traveled the world ministering to athletes of all ages. Patriot Baptist Church is proud to welcome him to help spread the good news, everyone is welcome to hear Joe’s inspirational message.

One of my favorite things about this time of year is the abundance of fresh vegetables coming from all the gardens in the area. I have not made it down to the farmers market in Vevay yet. I am hoping to very soon. There is nothing better than homegrown veggies. I received a text message the other day with pictures from my friend Barb Thomas. The message was “Need vegetables?” Followed by two pictures of yummy home grown veggies. I am definitely blessed to have amazing friends who take care of my veggie obsession.

As summertime comes to an end for the children and teens of Patriot, we still have time to do as this wonderful quote says: “This summer put your phone away for a few days. Make some memories that no one knows about. Make some memories that are just yours”… author unknown.

Have a wonderful week and get out and make some memories
