Patriot area churches are joining forces with local resident Travis Bailey in his fight against cancer with both a benefit yard sale and a worship service this weekend. The benefit yard sale will be on Saturday, July 20 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. for Travis and his family. The Yard Sale will be held at the Concord Community Church at 196 Concord Rd, just off of Highway 156 and west of Patriot.
Donations to the yard sale are welcome. Booths for goods and craft items will also be available for a donation of $15. To reserve a booth, call 812-594-2276. On Sunday, July 21 at 10 a.m. a joint worship service will be hosted by the Concord Community Church. Travis has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer affecting his kidneys, liver, lungs, throat and bones. He and his wife Ashley have four children and are expecting a fifth. Please help support these churches as they come together to help this family.
Congratulations to John Keeton named Mr. Switzerland County at the Fair last week.
Last Friday, I spent the evening as an unofficial Switzerland County tour guide for my nephew Jeff. We started with an exquisite dinner at the Ferry Street Fudo Restaurant, buzzed the Kentucky Speedway, visited old family friends Del and
Shirley just outside Florence and finished with a grand tour of Patriot including the infamous Sidewalk to No Where. Even though I, too, started out as a weekender 21 years ago, I had forgotten what a limited exposure our part-timers get to our community. There are just not enough hours in the day to get everything in.
I was lucky enough this week to witness both the American Queen and the American Duchess as they travelled upriver to Cincy. We have a “River Rat Alert” on Facebook that truly helps. For those interested, you may wish to monitor their progress on www.Cruisemapper.com.
The next Red HOT Hatter meeting will be held on Thursday, July 19 at 11AM at Jewell’s on Main, Warsaw KY. Everyone is welcome! Red hat and purple clothing are welcome but are NOT required. Only requirements are to participate in a good meal, have fun and make new friends!
