The storm Thursday took out a rather large section of the wooden privacy fence that runs along the side of my property. Very strong winds! And I would call these winds ‘straight line’ as the winds seemed to run parallel and close to the ground. A rather heavy old lawn chair that was deeply settled into debris and weeds in my back yard was picked up and tossed about 10 feet. We’ve “Jerry-rigged” some fencing up for the time being, but I have to say, I really miss my privacy fence. Having been here for 13 years, I am not used to seeing into my neighbors’ back yards. Likewise, I feel a little uncomfortable running through the back yard to the garage now since its so open. The critters, however, are rather amused by seeing their canine neighbors for once. I am not sure whether they were completely aware of the critters on the ‘other side’. My Terrible Two Tomcats were out during the storm but arrived home afterwards none the less for wear. Sure, could have been worse for all of us. Glad it wasn’t!

I love my baby kitties but what I do not love is cleaning up after the little darlings! Only five weeks old last Friday, they are using kitty litter and eating solid food already. Of course, in addition to ‘using’ the litter, they are playing with it, in it and on it. I have temporarily surrendered my second bathroom to Momma Cat and her eight fuzz balls so at times when I am on my computer in the room next door, I can hear them playing, fighting and trashing the room. Sweet little darlings! I have one that I call Bat Cat because of the set of white bat wings on its black little body. While being loved and cuddled the other day, I distinctly heard purring emitting from its little body. Their personalities are beginning to develop, and I am hoping soon that I will be able to have their genders determined. As much as I love them all, I can’t wait to be an “empty nester” again.
The 4th of July Parade this year will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4th, with lineup at the Patriot Boat Ramp beginning at 9 a.m. There will again be a bicycle decoration contest before the Parade. The “Tea for Toni” on June 3rd was very well executed by Red Hot Hatters Jan Bixler, Mika King and Dottie Keeton. The food was abundant and delicious. Talk has already begun about planning another “Tea for Toni”, maybe to commemorate her birthday in March.
The following tea sandwiches were made by Jan Bixler and served at the “Tea for Toni”:
Kentucky Benedictine
Tea Sandwiches
2 (8-oz.) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup peeled, seeded, and finely chopped cucumber
1/2 cup minced green onions
1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
48 white bread slices
Stir together first 7 ingredients. Spread mixture on 1 side of 24 bread slices; top with remaining 24 bread slices. Trim crusts from sandwiches; cut each sandwich into 4 triangles with a serrated knife. Makes 4 dozen sandwiches.
