Hard as I try, it seems as though the electronic world is against me. I have been without a laptop since mine died late last fall. About the same time, I canceled Wi-Fi at my residence. So I have been using an electronic “tablet” and the Wi-Fi at work. Of course I decided not to work anymore and as happy as I am with that decision, I am frustrated that I can not find an Internet connection in Patriot that I can use once a week. So I have resorted to transmitting my article by cellphone. That requires me to type in every word, letter by letter, using one finger and a screen approximately 2 inches wide by 3 inches long. Please forgive me then if my articles lack verbosity.

Patty Chase tells me that due to the close proximity of our two columns, some of her readers think that she retired, not me! Nope, she’s still going strong. I, however, have totally adapted to the leisure life and could only be happier if I won the lottery. First thing the first morning, I dug out my old CD player, loaded it up with contemporary (and traditional) Christian music and set the volume to just below the sound barrier. Nothing better to cheer up your day than Tennessee Ernie Ford and the Gaither Vocal Band praising the Lord!

My sincere condolences to Joyce Bailey, other family and friends of Donna Bailey who passed away recently.

I’ve begun attacking the house, the yard and the garage simultaneously and as a result I am hoping to organize a neighborhood yard sale on Friday, April 28th, in and about my garage, carport and alley. I share the alley that runs beside the Patriot Baptist Church and connects Highway 156 and Front Street with three other residences and the church. Anyone interested in joining our Bargain Alley please contact me at (812) 594-2281. If it goes well, maybe we can have one on the last Friday of the month for the summer.

The Red Hot Hatters are also collecting donated items to sell during the County Wide Sale on Saturday, June 17th. All proceeds will be donated to the Antoinette “Toni” Kniola Memorial Fund with the Community Foundation. Again call me at (812) 594-2281 to arrange pick up of items. Some of these items will also be sold at the Patriot sale April 28th.

Please add Bill Levell, my friend Sharon’s husband, and Wayne Dawson, my friend Sandy’s husband to your prayer lists. Also Bruce Hutcherson who was sent to the hospital Sunday. And, as of last week, Marilyn Cook was still resting at home after her fall and awaiting her surgery.

Ms. Patty Chase and I double-teamed the Fish Fry last Friday at the Rising Sun Methodist Church. Between her friends, my friends and our friends, we could have filled the place. The food was again excellent as can be attested to by Rita and Tom Turner, and  Danny and Sue Back, Dianna ‘Jodi’ Winslow and her daughter Dionne Reynolds. Angel and Matt Lieland, their kids and his Mom arrived just as I was leaving.

The Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church will have services on Easter Sunday, April 16th at 10 a.m. Therefore there will not be Mass on Saturday, April 15th. On Good Friday, April 14th there will be 1 p.m. services.

As I continue on with my new life as a retiree, I delight in the simple pleasures that I’ve not previously allowed myself to enjoy: caring for my critters, cooking and yard work. So far, only two critters have managed to escape (temporarily) from the yard, I’ve gained three pounds and I can’t seem to keep the batteries charged for my new weed eater. But, alas! I will muddle through – and love every minute of it!

My poor little finger, however, will need complete rest this week if we have to continue and send this article in my cellphone!

If you have anything for me to include in the article, please send it to me. Information can be received any day of the week but normally my deadline is Sunday at noon for that week’s issue of the paper. Any news received later will appear in the following week’s article.

You may contact me several ways: by leaving a note or message inside the cat mailbox in front of 1995 Front Street in Patriot; or by calling my home (812) 594-2281; or dropping me a note at P.O. Box 1, Patriot Indiana, 47038. In addition, contact KAY E COOK on Facebook or online at PatriotNews1995@gmail.com.
