Pacers win middle school track meet


The Switzerland County Middle School boys track team won a hard-fought three-way meet last Wednesday night, defeating Jac-Cen-Del and St. Louis Academy.

The Pacers finished with 61 points, followed by Jac-Cen-Del with 57 and St. Louis with 7.

The meet came down to the final event, the 1,600-meter relay, and the Pacer team of Michael Scott, T.J. White, Sean Oatman, and Braden Burk brought home the blue ribbon to claim the team title.

Other first place finishers for the Pacers included double winner Braden Burk, who won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:06; and the 800-meter run in a time of 2:30. Bradley Cox won the shot put with a distance of 38′ 1/2″; and T.J. White won the high jump with a height of 5’2″.

Second place points were earned by Alex Herbert in the 100-meter dash; Talen Taylor in the 1,600-meter run; T.J. White in the 800-meter run; Richie Lay in the 200-meter dash; Sean Oatman in the 400-meter dash; Sam Edwards in the shot put; Bradley Cox in the discus; and Braden Burk in the long jump.

Finishing third overall was Sean Oatman in the 110-meter hurdles; T.J. White in the 1,600-meter run; and Alex Herbert in the discus.

Fourth places were earned by Jerry Lewis in the 110-meter hurdles; Demetrie Liapis in the 100-meter dash; Talen Taylor in the 800-meter run; Michael Scott in the 400-meter dash; and Nathan Steinbis in the high jump.
