The Switzerland County Pacer varsity baseball team split a pair of games during the past week.
– On Saturday the Pacers fell to Oldenburg Academy by a score of 3-0.
Ryan Peters had an exceptional outing on the mound, pitching six innings and striking out seven while allowing no earned runs and only one walk.
Offensively, Ryan Peters also led the team by going 2-for-3; while Travis Webster was 1-for-3, Brandon Otter was 1-for-3; and Jordan Hewitt was 1-for-2.
“It was another good pitching performance wasted,” head coach Shannon Barger said. “Our defense did not make the routine play, and they capitalized.”
– Switzerland County got another outstanding pitching performance on Monday night, this time in a 2-0 win over Milan in a conference game.
Senior Travis Webster went the distance allowing no earned runs and striking out 12 as Switzerland County got a much-needed win.
“We finally won a close game, which should do wonders for our confidence,” Coach Barger said. “Travis pitched extremely well and we scored just enough runs to win.”
Switzerland County got into the scoring column in the second inning when Brandon Otter singled and Aaron Moore reached on an error that put runners at second and third.
Brandon Otter then got called out on a failed suicide squeeze; but Aaron Moore scored the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Hewitt.
In the third inning, Travis Webster singled and stole second, and then moved to third and scored on a sacrifice fly by T.J. Sefton.
