Pacers knock off state-ranked Raiders

The Switzerland County Pacer varsity baseball team defeated South Ripley on Monday night, May 21st, by a final score of 5-4.

In the first inning, Travis Webster reached on an error and then advanced on Zach Osowski’s single. A triple by Ryan Peters plated both runners; and Ryan Peters then scored the third run of the opening inning when a balk was called by the South Ripley pitcher.

In the third inning, Zach Osowski and Ryan Peters both singled to get things going. Luke May then singled to score Zach Osowski; with Ryan Peters wrapping up the scoring moments later when he crossed the plate after an error.

“This was a terrific win,” Coach Shannon Barger said. “South Ripley had won 23 straight conference games and is ranked third in the state. This win should give us a bunch of confidence.”

Ryan Peters was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored; Zach Osowski was 2-for-3 at bat with two runs scored; and Luke May was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Aaron Moore and Banny Schira both collected hits in the game; while Travis Webster had a run scored.

On the mound, Brandon Otter pitched four innings, striking out three and allowing three walks and giving up three earned runs.

Travis Webster pitched the final three innings, giving up one earned run while striking out three and allowing only one walk.
