Pacers fall to Madison in baseball, 12-9

After enduring several rainouts to open the season, the Switzerland County boys varsity baseball team hit the field on Monday night, and despite a strong effort, fell to Madison by a score of 12-9.

The first inning got started with Travis Webster being hit by a pitch; and that was followed by T.J. Sefton and Zack Osowski drawing walks to load the bases.

Travis Webster then scored on a ground out by Ryan Peters; and T.J. Sefton scored on a bunt single by Brandon Otter.

Brandon Otter then stole second, and he and Zach Osowski both scored on a single by Luke May, giving the Pacers a big four-run opening inning.

That would be all of the Switzerland County scoring until the fifth, when a Zach Osowski double drove home T.J. Sefton.

In the seventh, Brandon Otter, Aaron Moore, and Luke May all connected on singles, with Luke May’s plating Brandon Otter for the team’s sixth run.

After a Travis Tackett ground out advanced Aaron Moore and Luke May, a grounder by Danny Schira turned into a Madison error, allowing both Pacer runners to score. Danny Schira then scored on a single by T.J. Sefton to close the scoring.

Offensively, T.J. Sefton had three hits and scored two runs; Brandon Otter had three hits, scored two runs, and had an RBI; and Luke May collected two hits, scored a run, and knocked in three.

Zach Osowski had a hit, scored a run, and had an RBI; Aaron Moore had a hit and scored a run; and Travis Webster and Danny Schira each scored a run.

On the mound, Ryan Peters started and went 2 1/3-innings, allowing four earned runs; and Brandon Otter then came on in relief, pitching 1 2/3-innings and also allowing four earned runs and picking up a strikeout.

Zach Osowski pitched an inning and allowed two earned runs; and Travis Webster finished the game with an inning on the mound, picking up a strikeout.
