Pacers fall in diamond opener

The Switzerland County Pacer varsity baseball team opened its season on Saturday with a 5-2 loss to the Hauser Jets.

“It was a pretty disappointing way to start the season,” Pacer head coach Shannon Barger said. “We gave up three unearned runs and had more errors than hits. We had very few hitters who were aggressive and ready to swing the bat.”

On offense, Brandon Otter contributed two hits; and Ian Sisson had an RBI double in the contest.

On the mound, junior Zach Osowski pitched 4 2/3-innings of scoreless relief, striking out four and walking only one.

“Zach had an outstanding performance in relief,” Coach Barger said. “Hopefully, we can blame this on being the first game and some of our players being nervous. We have too many returning players for this to happen very often.”

Switzerland County returns to play tomorrow (Friday) when the Pacers travel to Jac-Cen-Del; and Switzerland County then travels to Lawrenceburg for a doubleheader on Saturday before returning home on Monday to take on South Ripley.

The Pacers finish a busy week next Wednesday with a game at Milan.
