Pacers complete win over Madison Shawe

The Switzerland County Pacer varsity baseball team completed a rained out game with Madison Shawe last Wednesday night, and came back with a big fifth inning to claim a 14-5 victory.

Madison Shawe had jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the home half of the first inning after Switzerland County had scored a run to open the game; but the Pacers fought back, getting a pair of runs in the fourth inning before exploding for seven runs in the fifth.

The Pacers then added four more runs in the top of the sixth inning, earning a 14-5 win.

Offensively, Kyle Konkle had three hits in the game including a double, and knocked in three runs; Jonathan Moore collected a hit and an RBI; Nathan Hunter had a hit, scored a run and had two RBI; and Josh Yeary had a double and an RBI and scored two runs.

Nelson Hughes had two RBI; Celby Kinney had a hit and an RBI and scored two runs; Hunter Jordan had a single and scored a run; Brady Scudder had a hit and scored a run; and Steven Craig had a hit, scored two runs, and collected an RBI.

On the mound, Celby Kinney pitched six inning and allowed only one earned run while striking out seven and walking four.

On Saturday Switzerland County hosted Austin, and the Eagles used a four-run third inning to squeak out a 5-4 victory.

Kyle Konkle gathered two hits in the contest, scoring a run and knocking in another; while Jonathan Moore had a double, scored a run and had an RBI.

Josh Yeary had a double and scored a run; Celby Kinney had a hit; and Hunter Jordan also contributed a hit.

On the mound, Brady Scudder pitched 2 2/3-innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out two; and Collin Burgess pitched 4 1/3-innings, striking out three and allowing no earned runs.

Last Monday the Pacers fell in a hard-fought game with Milan, 10-9.

Switzerland County scored eight runs in the first two innings of the game, but couldn’t hold on to the lead, as the Indians scored four runs in the top of the seventh to grab the win.

Steven Craig had a single and scored two runs; Nelson Hughes had two hits, scored three runs, and had an RBI; Josh Yeary scored a pair of runs; Hunter Jordan scored a run and had an RBI; Celby Kinney had an RBI; and Kyle Konkle had a single and a run scored.

Jonathan Moore continued his outstanding season with two doubles and an RBI; and Brady Scudder had a hit and a run scored.

Brady Scudder went 6 1/3-innings on the mound, striking out four and allowing four earned runs.
