The Switzerland County Pacer boys cross country team advanced to this Saturday’s Regional meet with an impressive third place overall finish in Tuesday night’s Sectional.

Silver Creek won the Sectional with a score of 50; followed by Jennings County with 57 and Switzerland County with 76. Madison was fourth with 85; and Jeffersonville finished with 90.

Other teams in the Sectional included: Austin, Southwestern, and Scottsburg.

Braden Burk finished fifth overall to lead Switzerland County, running a time of 17:16. Anthony Dennis was 12th overall in a time of 18:03; and Talen Taylor was 15th overall in a time of 18:10. All three Pacer runners earned All Sectional honors for finishing in the top 15.

Quinn Meyer was 19th in 18:25; Sean Oatman was 26th in 18:52; Mikhail Cole was 33rd in 19:28; and Dakota Taylor was 40th in 20:06.

With the top five teams advancing out of the Sectional, the Lady Pacers barely missed moving on, finishing sixth overall, just 10 points behind fifth place Madison.

Silver Creek won the Sectional with a score of 38; followed by Scottsburg with 107; Southwestern with 111; Jennings County with 114; Madison with 116; and Switzerland County with 126.

Other schools included Jeffersonville, Henryville, Madison Shawe, and New Washington.

Robin Furnish wrapped up an outstanding season by finishing fourth overall with a time of 21:39; and Paige Ridener was 12th overall in a time of 22:19. Both girls earned All Sectional honors with their performances.

Allie Mathews was 28th in a time of 24:00; Jaclyn Hart was 41st in a time of 24:58; Kenzie Dye was 50th in 26:10; Adeli Kinne was 51st in 26:50; and Samantha Reynolds was 58th in 28:11.

The sectional brought to a close the careers of seniors Allie Mathews and Bre Hinman – who has been one of the top runners in the area throughout her high school career but has been limited this year due to injuries.

“These two girls have been instrumental in the success of our girls cross country program,” Coach Mark Boggs said. “In their four years, they achieved two conference championships, three regional berths, one semistate berth; and numerous individual honors.”
